The Alexander Technique is a practical method of self help, which teaches us to become more aware of how we use our minds and bodies in activity and at rest. By choosing the way we react to stress and by letting go of habits of tension, we can reduce pressure on our joints and rediscover our natural balance and ease of movement.
It is in the everyday activities of our busy lives that we accumulate tension that get in the way of our enjoyment of life. Rushing about our day ‘with the handbrake on’ over time accelerates the wear and tear of our bodies.
When we let go of unnecessary muscle tension and reduce the pressure on our joints we allow more ease and freedom of movement. By practising the Alexander Technique we can learn to make things easier on ourselves and may pause and ask ‘are there more efficient, less harmful ways of going about my everyday activities?’
The Technique’s basic idea is that the neck muscles reflect our tendency to contract ourselves. By allowing the muscles in the neck to soften the head can balance lightly on the top of the spine. This encourages a series of reflexes thoughout the body to support us and allows a more natural ease and co-ordination of our movements. We often interfere with these reflexes to such an extent that we often use four or five times more tension in our body than is really necessary and we may be completely unaware of it.
Learning the Alexander Technique may be helpful for those with muscular pain in the back, neck and shoulders, fatigue, stress, anxiety, high blood pressure, osteoarthritis, tension headaches or it may enhance performance; teachers, musicians, actors, dancers, those in demanding jobs, parents or anyone who wants to learn more about themselves and use AT to prevent excessive wear and tear.
Reflexology is the healing art of applying pressure to reflex points on the feet or hands that correspond to every organ and gland in the body. Gentle pressure is applied to these points to stimulate the body’s natural healing process and encourage physical and emotional well-being. Most people find reflexology for the most part to be very relaxing.
Reflexology can be used to help conditions including:
Reflexology is recommended as a complementary therapy and should not replace medical treatment.
A typical treatment is 45 minutes to 60 minutes long and begins with a consultation about your health and lifestyle.
You are then asked to remove your shoes and socks and sit comfortably in a reclining chair or on a massage table. Otherwise you remain fully clothed.
The reflexologist will assess the feet and then stimulates various points to identify areas of tenderness or tension.
The reflexologist then uses brisk movements to warm the feet up. Then pressure is applied from the toes to the heel according to your comfort.
Lotion, oil or talc may be used.
Most people feel calm and relaxed after a treatment. They may even feel sleepy. Occasionally, people feel nauseous, anxious, or tearful, but this is only temporary and is considered to be part of the healing process.
Shiatsu is a Japanese word, which means finger (shi) pressure (atsu).
Shiatsu is a hands-on Japanese therapy based on traditional Chinese medicine, which encompasses ‘acupuncture without needles’. It works on acupuncture meridians, using pressure along the channels and stretching them in order to free energy flow. According to the Chinese, if the energy is blocked somewhere, it can result in pain, lack of mobility or discomfort. By easing the flow of energy your body and mind should function at their best.
Shiatsu is for all ages from tiny babies to the elderly. Marie’s oldest client was a lady of 101, she found her treatment extremely relaxing and it helped her to walk more steadily.
A typical session lasts approximately one hour although the first session may be slightly longer to allow the practitioner to take your medical history and discuss your expectations.
The session usually takes place on a padded mat or futon at floor level, although it is possible to receive Shiatsu sitting on a chair if you prefer not to lie down or have mobility problems. You remain fully clothed at all times.
Following Shiatsu, due to the body’s natural healing process, there can be a feeling of increased vitality and usually you will feel invigorated yet relaxed.
Shiatsu works not only on physical conditions like pain and stiffness but also on mental and emotional levels.
Common conditions which can be helped by Shiatsu include back pain, headaches, migraines, whiplash injuries and neck stiffness, joint pain and reduced mobility, menstrual problems, digestive problems, asthmatic symptoms, sports injuries, depression, tiredness, mood and stress…
“It lifted my mood” is a frequent comment from clients who were seeking help for a physical condition.
After the session, you may be given some recommendations and exercises to continue the healing process and allow you to change your habits.
Marie offers ½ hour and 1 hour sessions @ The Purple Lotus. Prices start from £25.

Forget lying dreamily on a table having your muscles gently oiled and kneaded.
Traditional Thai Massage is a very different concept, an ancient and respected form of massage.
You will experience a series of movements which have evolved over more than 2,000 years and afterwards you`ll feel as if you´re walking on air. It is a strong, revitalising and very effective massage - much favoured by sportsmen and performers. Traditional Thai Massage is an ancient blend of both Chinese and Indian techniques and shares common roots with Yoga, Shiatsu and Acupuncture. Energy channels called SEN-Lines run through the body (like blood vessels but carrying energy which underpins all life).
Injuries, stress or trauma cause obstructions or breakages in these SEN-Lines manifesting as weakness and pain. The practitioner works to rebalance the body`s natural energies by stimulating or calming the SEN, applying pressure to points along these lines in a dynamic process involving energy exchanges between practitioners and client. This makes it possible to increase low energy or calm down a hyperactive person.
The practitioner uses hands, thumbs, elbows, knees and feet as appropriate and depending on the size and muscle tone of the client.
Whilst remaining totally relaxed you be gently stretched. This increases flexibility, energy flow and muscle strength. The advantage of Traditional Thai Massage is that although you will be stretched further than you thought possible no force is used and no-one is taken beyond their personal limit yet you will feel as though you`ve had a fabulous workout invigorating both mind and body.

Nature has provided a remedy for every disease. Naturopathy seeks to promote natural healing without the use of drugs. Naturopathic medicine is a distinct and ancient form of healing, a philosopy, a science, an art practice which can promote health by stimulating and supporting the body’s inner power to heal itself.
Drugs taken to alleviate the illness mask the symptoms, and in most cases sets up a host of other ailments not at all connected with the symptom.
Naturopathy looks at the symptoms, analyses the cause then treats the cause not the symptom.
Kinesiology is based on the fact that the body language never lies. Sometimes we do not understand what the body is trying to tell us, but that does not change the fact that the body is constantly expressing externally and internally what is happening.
Kinesiology allows the body to tell us what needs to be cone. The body becomes our chief diagnostic and therapeutic tool. This is a truly safe, effective, non evasive method of diagnosis that gives instant usable information regarding physiological dysfunction.
Kinesiology is the practical tool for the assessment, prevention and in some cases cure for the bodies total integration and balance of the mental, physical, nutritional and energetic systems.
Pain is the bodies way of speaking and often happens after years of ignoring lots of warning signs which are asking us to change years of wrong habits.

Reconnective Healing tends to be a life changing experience. Now, for the first time, you may access a new, more comprehensive spectrum of healing than has been attainable at any point to now, one that not only includes but expands beyond all forms of “energy” healing. The Reconnective Healing spectrum is comprised of the full healing and evolutionary continuum of energy, light and information. It allows for healings that are not just physical, not just mental, not just emotional... yet go beyond that to bring you healing that includes the evolution of your very being and essence!
Vastly different from reiki, johrei, Jin Shin, Qi Gong or any healing ”technique” ever encountered, Reconnective Healing allows you to transcend technique and its limitations. Entirely.
Your interaction with these highly palpable frequencies is initiated during your session and they continue to work with you long after your session is over. Following your sessions, you will be attuned to a more comprehensive and evolutionary and healing frequency than ever before.
The Reconnection. Originally the meridian lines, sometimes known as the acupuncture lines, on our bodies were connected to the grid lines that encircle the planet. These grid lines were designed to continue out and connect us to a vastly larger grid, tying us into the entire universe. Over time we became disconnected from these lines.
The Reconnection brings in “new” axitonal lines that enable us to standardize unique vibratory levels and frequencies and healing and ultimately for our evolution. These axitonal lines are part of a timeless network of intelligence, a parallel-dimensional circulatory system that draws the basic energy for the renewal functions of the human body.
The Reconnection brings in and activates these new lines allowing for the exchange of energy, light and information, the reconnection of DNA strands and the reintegration “strings” (simultaneously occurring – or parallel – planes of existence.)

Hopi Ear Candling - A Pueblo Indian Treatment which helps ease sinus congestion, headaches, earache and wax build up. Very calming and soothing for mind and body. Soothing heat relaxes, calms and cleanses removing impurities.
The patient simply lies on their side and relaxes as a lit hopi candle is placed in their ear. When lit, the ear candles have a slight sucking action often referred to as the chimney principle, drawing any impurities to the surface where they can be gently removed. The rising air inside the ear sets up a vibration which gently massages the eardrum. This can help to regulate the pressures involved inside the ear. The flow of air within the ear candle creates a circulation of concentrated vapour. This is soothing, calming and protects the irritated areas. Most impurities or deposits are carried away through the candle "chimney", although some of them can be found in the lower section of the candle after removal from the ear, or some wax could even work its way up to the surface 24-48 hours after.
Though results may vary from patient to patient, some practitioners and clients have reported that hopi ear candles can be helpful with:
Cleaning out excessive or compacted wax in the ears
Cleaning out yeast build up and dispelling fluid build up
Eliminating backed up mucus
Discouraging candidia
Diminishing chronic sinusitis
Enhancing hearing, or even taste and smell
Relieving ear pain
Restoring equilibrium or pressure in the ear (eg for frequent flying, sports such as diving, etc
Noises in the ears, ringing, tinnitus

Reiki can be defined as Universal Life Force Energy — and is a pure form of healing.
Reiki (pronounced Ray-key)is an ancient system of natural healing involving the laying on of hands and is probably thousands of years old. It is a belief that the techniques, widely used initially by Tibeton monks over 2300 years ago, was re-discovered in the 1800's by Mikao Usui It was through his dedication and experiences that he spent the rest of his life using and teaching the healing power of Reiki.
It is based on the concept that an 'unseen life energy' flows through us. If this energy is low then we are more likely to become sick or stressed. If it is high then we are more able to be happy and healthy. Reiki can work effectively in conjunction with other medical or therapeutic techniques and may help to relieve side effects and promote healing.
Reiki supports the body's natural ability to heal itself
Healing on all levels whether mental, spiritual, physical and emotional.
Loosening blocked energy
Cleansing the body of toxins
Increasing intuitive awareness
Strengthening immune system
Helps in meditation - increasing psychic sensitivity
The practitioner gives treatments by placing their hands in a number of easily learnt positions on the 'person to be healed' with the intent to heal and the Reiki energy begins to flow. The Reiki naturally flows to the area most in need and therefore no direction by the practitioner is necessary for the energy to work. This means that each Reiki treatment differs and the persons receiving a treatment and the practitioners giving the healing, report differing sensations and effects e.g. warmth, cold, tingling. Whatever the experience, know that it is the highest good of both the healer and healee and the general beneficial effect of the treatment is the same with the recipient receiving the required energy to bring about changes to restore balance within.

Homeopathy is a holistic system of medicine which uses carefully selected remedies to stimulate the body's own natural forces of recovery.
It recognises that ill health is the body's response to mental, emotional or physical disharmony, and seeks to treat the underlying cause of any imbalance by considering the whole person rather than just the symptoms of the illness.
Establishing good health involves treating both the mind and the body. When you see a homeopath, they will take time to listen to how you feel physically, mentally and emotionally, prescribing homeopathic remedies which most closely match your individual symptom picture as you experience it – taking into account you as a person, and your individual characteristics.
You may have heard homeopathy described as the principle of 'like cures like'. Indeed, there are two ways of treating illness: the way of opposites, and the way of similars.
Take for example a case of insomnia. Conventional medicine or drug therapy uses the way of opposites by prescribing a drug to bring on artificial sleep. This often involves the use of large or regular doses of drugs, which can sometimes cause side effects or addiction. Homeopathy - the way of similars - has the central philosophy that a substance that produces symptoms in a healthy person can cure those same symptoms in a sick person. So in the example of insomnia, by giving the patient a specially prepared minute dose of a substance, such as coffee, they will be able to sleep naturally.
Homeopathic remedies come in easy-to-take tablet or liquid form, and are drawn from the plant, mineral and animal worlds. As a unique, potentised medicine, they avoid unwanted side effects, making them safe to use even in situations where conventional drugs would be dangerous or inadvisable (for example during pregnancy). Healing begins from within your own body, strengthening your general health and immune system, and giving you an increased sense of energy and wellbeing.
