Classes

Lotus Gentle & Relaxation Yoga,  is a more passive form of yoga, and involves holding poses for a longer period and is suitable for all levels of fitness.  There may also be focus on breathing techniques that effect our entire physical system.  This is also a good place to start to learn basic poses, relaxation techniques, and become comfortable with yoga.

Lotus Yoga dynamic flow  is a creative vinyasa flow yoga. Lotus yoga is not only meditative but also physically challenging. It combines breath and movement together creating a seamless flow of postures to re-align the spine and open the body.  This form of yoga is very safe providing you listen to your body.  This in itself may take some practice. 

You will learn to know when you body is out of balance or when you are pushing it too far, therefore modifying your postures whenever necessary. There may also be focus on breathing techniques that effect our entire physical system. Be prepared to sweat.

This system builds strength, stamina and flexibility. Beginners may want to start with a 45min to 1 hour class and then try the more challenging 1.5 hr classes. However please contact us if you are not sure.

For Lotus Hot Yoga (roughly 88-90 degrees) classes, you need to prepare to sweat. We recommend that you bring water, a mat and a towel. Comfortable yoga clothes, shorts, vest top, leggings are ok, baggy clothes or sweatpants are not recommended. Ones that are made from a fabric that wicks sweat away are best.

Drink lots of water so you are hydrated when you arrive. Keep in mind that caffeine is dehydrating, so it's best to have your latte for after class. Also, do not eat a big meal before you come, as digesting food requires energy - energy that you need available for your practice.

Hot Yoga has taken the world by storm offering a non-traditional form of practicing Yoga poses. In the Hot Yoga practice, elevated room temperature is meant to be beneficial in breaking down tissue blockages more readily and stimulating the release of toxins.

Lotus Hot Yoga is a heated, all levels vinyasa yoga practice. Vinyasa or "flow yoga" is a highly creative and powerful style of yoga where the steady timing and awareness of the in-breath and out-breathe enable the body to flow gracefully from one posture to the next. It is designed to build strength and flexibility while cultivating balance and overall wellbeing. The room is heated so that muscles warm up more quickly and to allow for a deeper release of tension on the body. It also stimulates sweat and sweating is helpful in detoxifying the body.

This practice is open to ALL ages, abilities, and body types. Teachers focus on precise alignment and offer modifications for postures based on the ability of the student. Students of all levels are encouraged to reach their full potential, focusing not only on flexibility and strength, but also on enjoying the full practice: relaxing the body, opening the mind, and nourishing the soul.

Aerial Yoga is a unique technique which uses a low-hanging fabric trapeze/hammock to support the weight of the body.

With the weight of the body supported, students learn how to achieve proper postural alignment through relaxation rather than effort, enhancing a relaxed and peaceful state of mind as well.

Aerial Yoga will enhance other sporting activities and your traditional Yoga practice in numerous ways:

  Challenging traditional Yoga postures such as inversions and deep backbends can be achieved without effort and without strain with the use of the Aerial Yoga hammock, it lengthens muscles, increases flexibility and decompresses the spine, and its great fun!

2   Deep muscle releases achieved in the air allow students to explore much deeper stretches in their traditional Yoga postures on the floor.

3   Common injuries caused by overstretching the shoulders and compression in the lower back are addressed through exercises that strengthen shoulders without compromising flexibility, and by strengthening core abdominal muscles without compression of the spine.

4   The benefits of Aerial Yoga include: decompression of joints, relieving pressure while aligning the vertebrae of the spine without strain and increased overall agility, strength and flexibility.

Pregnancy YogaYoga in pregnancy can help your body and mind remain happy and healthy throughout your pregnancy and birth of your baby. A lovely place to meet other mums-to-be.

A typical class consists of gentle movements and stretches, breathing exercises and a lovely relaxation.  All practised a beautiful calm studio in the centre of Carlisle.

Tai Chi conists of slow, flowing movements, designed to promote a relaxed, healthy, energised body and an aware, quiet mind.
Tai Chi teaches us how to find balance and stability, both mentally and physically and gives us a sense of increased wellbeing.
The session will include: Relaxation, simple breathing exercises & gentle movement sequences.
Please wear comfortable clothing and flat shoes or bare feet.

Purple Lotus Teacher Training – 200 hours

June / July 2012

This Teacher Training Course is designed for people who want to make a major shift in their lives.  You may want to become a licensed yoga teacher or simply deepen your own practice.  Whatever your goal, you will increase your awareness of the ever-changing world and learn to interpret the constant flow of information coming directly to you from within.

Discover the true you.  In this 200-hour yoga teacher training, you will learn yoga poses and how to sequence them (asanas), breathing techniques (pranayama), cleansing (kriyas), yogic anatomy and philosophy, focus exercises and meditation.  Further, you will learn the basics of a yogic diet according to the time-proven principles of Ayurveda. An added feature of this teaching training course will be an exploration of the Incan shamanic tradition (Alberto Villoldo, The Four Insights).

At the conclusion of the course, you will receive a certificate from the Yoga Alliance (U.K.) and will be licensed to teach in yoga studios or conduct private classes.

The course will take three consecutive weekends, followed by two full intensive weeks.

Learn and practice The Yoga Sequence developed by SABINA STAHL, a dynamic teacher of yoga for eleven years.  Educated in Physical Education at Bad Säckingen College and a model for the Ford Agency in NYC for fifteen years, Sabina directs Teacher Training Programs in New York, Costa Rica, and Israel.  Experience her seamless flow of teaching and excellent adjustments.

The Yoga Sequence has elements from the Astanga, Vinyassa, and Kundalini traditions.  The repetition of poses from the Astanga tradition helps students to sharpen their minds and move through the asanas (and life) with precision and focus. The Vinyassa tradition builds awareness of one's own unique body and encourages a free flow of movement.  The Kundalini tradition develops the control of breath and strengthens the core.  All three of these elements are a vital part of The Yoga Sequence.

Study the first principles of yoga philosophy with KATHRYN KIMBALL, an experienced, New York-based teacher of yoga philosophy (Atmananda Yoga, Ayurveda Beauty Care, The Open Center) and a practitioner of yoga for sixteen years.  Holding a Ph.D. in English Literature, she taught at Drew University for fifteen years and brings a unique perspective to the founding texts of yoga:  Patanjali's Yoga Sutras, which offers the mind-liberating principles for all schools of yoga—and also, the stirring foundational poem, The Bhagavad Gita, which is considered one of the most important texts in the history of literature and philosophy.

Relax KidsKidz Centre

Relax Kids is a unique method of teaching children to relax using dance and movement, games, stretching and breathing exercises, peer massage, affirmations and visualisations. Children enter a magical world as they have fun relaxing their bodies and minds.


Purple Teens

Chill skills for teens. Helps raise self-esteem and confidence in children, supports the development of healthy behaviour and raises the achievement threshold through relaxation techniques, positive affirmations and visualisations, breathing exercises as well as dance, yoga, massage and discussion.


myChoga

Choga classes are a wonderful blend of yoga postures, creative themes, stories, songs, games, breathing, visualisation, relaxation and above all fun and yoga positivity. Suitable for ages 4-11 years.

Yoga embraces all cultural, racial and religious backgrounds.
