About Us

Debz SladenDebz is a Yoga Alliance Registered Teacher and the first Aerial Yoga teacher in the UK. She has been practicing and studying yoga for over 15 years, it is now a way of life for her and includes meditation and spiritual study on a daily basis. During this journey Debz has overcome stress, anxiety, depression and compulsive disorders thanks to her committed practice to yoga and meditation.

Debz completed her teacher training with the renowned Brian Cooper of Union Yoga in April 2003. Soon after she started her own classes in Carlisle and Cockermouth. Debz founded the Purple Lotus in January 2009 and has since then created Lotus Yoga with assistance from the other Lotus Instructors Tanya, Emma and Karen.

Debz keeps up her own training and study by attending workshops at Union Yoga in Edinburgh and frequent visits to India, the birthplace of yoga. She has also trained with Graeme and Leonie Northfield whom she finds extremely inspiring and highly recommends.

Yoga naturally led to Debz's interest in Thai Yoga Massage, she completed her training in levels 1 and 2 in August 2003 with Brian Cooper. Since then she has practiced Thai Massage at The North Lakes Clinic in Cockermouth, Warwick Hall in Carlisle and now from The Purple Lotus, Carlisle.

Debz discovered The Nia Technique when she was looking for something fun and free that would allow her to work out in a completely different way. While yoga is the discipline that put Debz back in good health, it is Nia which brings a smile to her face. She completed the white belt training course in October 2006 and returned to Carlisle as the first Nia instructor in the north of England, introducing the worlds first fusion fitness technique to Cumbria.

Tanya CoadyTanya is a busy mum of two young children. She has been practising yoga for many years and is now teaching at The Purple Lotus. With training, guidance and support from Debz Tanya now teaches Lotus Yoga Dynamic and Lotus Hot Yoga.

Tanya's yoga practice also led to her interest in holistic therapy. She has successfully completed courses in Thai Yoga Massage, Swedish Massage, and Oriental Facial Massage all of which are now available at The Purple Lotus.

Tanya is also looking forward to teaching baby massage and baby yoga in the near future.

Emma DentEmma is a wife and a mum to four beautiful children. Her journey into Yoga started over 10 years ago when a friend dragged her to a class. She was suffering from post natal depression at the time. Since that day she hasn't looked back and is enjoying yoga as a part of her life.

Practising yoga has helped her discover herself and see the world around her more clearly.

Emma successfully passed her Hatha Yoga teacher training course over five years ago and is a Yoga Alliance Registered yoga teacher.

Emma developed and now teaches Lotus Yoga gentle and relaxation, pregnancy, Lotus Kidz Yoga and is currently developing Lotus Yoga Ball.

Emma's love for yoga is her reason for teaching and her aspiration is to share the benefits with others.

Andrew Lennie

Married with two children, Andrew started practising Hatha Yoga about 25 years ago as an antidote to a hectic music business career, but it wasn't until five years ago when he met Paul Dallaghan at Yoga Thailand and discovered Ashtanga Vinyasa, that he started taking it seriously. Andrew completed his training with Paul (personally certified by Sri K. Pattabhi Jois) and qualified as a Yoga Alliance registered teacher in 2010. Since then, Asana, Pranayama and Meditation has become a part of his daily life.

Continuing his education and working towards his 500 hour qualification, he recently completed further training on Philosophy and Pranayama at Yoga Thailand under the guidance of Sri O. P. Tiwari, a disciple of Swami Kuvalayananda and one of the few authorities on Pranayama and the true practice of yoga.

Maureen ColohanHi I am Maureen Colohan and I have spent years developing my own style of therapy. In 2008 I was very proud to receive the Barclay’s North East Business award, as recognition for my work. I perfected my unique therapeutic training system to help my son Nik live positively with life threatening kidney failure.  Using the techniques he far outlives his prognosis and after his death I vowed to help as many people as possible.  Being no stranger to the pressures of life I absolutely walk the talk and can teach you how to incorporate my techniques into your daily life, so you not only resolve your problems with me but you can carry on helping yourself afterwards.  My system works for a huge range of issues and you will receive a relaxation CD and handouts to inspire you to carry on making positive changes in your life after your treatment is complete.

Sessions cost £45 and the number of sessions can range from 2 to 6 depending on the problem.

She runs her own practice in Langholm in the Scottish Borders. She has recently started offering appointments at The Purple Lotus and is happy to begin sharing this work in Carlisle.

She worked with psychotherapist and spiritual guide Richard Harvey, the author of The Flight of Consciousness. She also undertook training at the Oasis School of Human Relations in personal development and facilitating groups. Her continued exploration of holistic ways to develop and heal led her to swim with wild dolphins in Bimini, Bahamas in 2001. This was a profound and life changing experience for her.
Since 2004, she has spent each summer working in Bimini. hosting and facilitating groups in the joyful and profound experience of swimming with wild dolphins. She is also a support worker for Operation Sunshine, a UK based charity which enables families with special needs to have therapeutic holidays which includes swimming with the wild dolphins.

Janine WhitfieldJanine is a fully qualified and registered homeopath and established her practice in Carlisle and the surrounding areas in 2008. She has successfully used homeopathy to treat people of all ages with a wide range of health problems including: IBS; food intolerance; ME; stress, anxiety and depression; poor immunity, energy and general health; and female, menopausal and hormonal problems.

She specialises in homeopathy for fertility and pregnancy, babies and children's health, digestive problems, auto-immune disorders and depression.

Janine first discovered homeopathy when she herself was diagnosed with IBS and a range of food intolerances and auto-immune problems. Drugs prescribed by her GP did little to relieve her symptoms, and she did not want to be dependent on long-term regular medication and a highly restrictive diet and lifestyle. After six months of homeopathic treatment, she was symptom-free for the first time in years, and has stayed that way ever since.

As a result of her own experiences, a life-long interest was sparked, along with the desire to help others achieve similar results using homeopathy. She began her homeopathic training in 2004, and graduated as a fully qualified homeopath in July 2008.

Janine also used homeopathy successfully to support her first pregnancy, and gave birth to her son in June 2009 using only homeopathic remedies throughout the labour and afterwards to aid recovery.
